The Defensive Tactics Group (DTG) is a specialist Special Interest Group within IPA Section UK, dedicated to promoting safe, effective, and modern approaches to personal defence and officer protection. The group brings together serving and retired police officers, trainers, and enthusiasts who share an interest in improving skills, knowledge, and confidence in real-world defensive situations.
What the Group Offers

Training & Workshops:
The DTG runs practical courses covering a wide range of personal safety techniques, situational awareness, conflict management, control and restraint skills, and modern defensive methods suitable for policing and civilian self-protection.
Members have the opportunity to learn from highly experienced instructors with backgrounds in law enforcement, martial arts, and operational training. -
Skill Development:
Courses focus on simple, effective techniques that emphasise safety, control, and legality. The group promotes responsible, ethical use of defensive skills and encourages ongoing learning for both professionals and hobbyists. -
Online Community & Updates:
The DTG maintains an active online presence where they share training clips, event announcements, and educational content. Members can follow their updates and engage through the official Facebook page. -
