Who are Section UK Police Educators?
International Police Association (IPA) Section UK has formed a new special interest group aimed at members who are educators, trainers, specialist trainers.
Membership Levels
It was confirmed that there will be three levels of membership within the group:
Associate (A.PolEd)
Member (M.PolEd)
Fellow (F.PolEd)
The implementation of these levels is in line with other academic memberships and seeks to provide members with a formal recognition of their membership. The committee are currently discussing the criteria for each of the grades, but it will likely depend on a validation process, contribution to the group and professional development - both vocational and academic.
Workshop and Social Event
I am also pleased to confirm that October 2018 will see the first Police Educators Workshop and social event. Details will be confirmed at a later date.
Police Educators Journal
The group is seeking to produce its own periodical containing articles related to a range of police training topics and police related academic papers. This will be circulated across Section UK and abroad to share learning and promote our work. If you are an expert/specialist in your field and would like to contribute to the first edition, please contact Vice President Professional Chris Duncombe at VPDuncombe@ipa-uk.org
This is what section UK Police Educators do.
The Section UK Police Educators special interest group will work on a number of levels:
- We are sometimes asked if we can supply a lecturer to participate and speak at an International seminar, course or workshop. This database will be maintained and when we receive a request from the International Professional Commission, or some other organisation, we will contact those on the database with knowledge in that area. This will then offer the chance for a member to share their knowledge and promote Section UK at the same time.
- The same list of members would be used to supply, on request, lecturers for IBZ Gimborn, the German educational venue, which organises police related seminars and has long had links with the IPA.
- The group will seek to create training events in this country, similar to that done at Gimborn and open to IPA members worldwide and UK based non-members, with recruitment in mind and the intention of expanding our membership.
- Following the successes of ILDEP it is still acknowledged that many cannot afford to come to the UK on an exchange to understand the UK approach to policing. Members from this group would be offered to worldwide IPA Sections, as a small team able to visit their Section and deliver lectures on UK policing to their officers/staff. This way more members around the world could benefit, without the significant personal expense of travelling to the UK.
Who can join Section UK Police Educators?
The group welcomes members with a specialism/skill who are comfortable with public speaking or even developing their public speaking skills.
