The International Police Association has an effective impact on
fundraising efforts and has various processes for helping worthy causes.
The co-ordination of the International Police Association’s Emergency Aid for Disasters is undertaken by the International Social Commission (ISC).
When a disaster takes place within a Section, the Secretary General of the affected Section or other designated member should initiate contact with the ISC so that rapid aid can be provided from the Emergency Aid Fund.
The ISC will launch an appeal through the international IPA community for additional funds.
At an international level, the Permanent Executive Bureau will consider appeals for financial assistance to police officers affected by natural disasters. A maximum of 30,000 CHF per year is allocated to an Emergency Aid Fund and once an appeal is launched across the international IPA community, that sum can swell considerably.
Examples of where Emergency Aid has been paid out and collected are 911, the Boxing Day Tsunami; Eastern European Floods, the Italian Earthquake. Examples from 2010/2011 include floods in large parts of the world, a major fire in Israel in which 40 personnel from the police and fire service perished, and the devasting earthquake in Japan which took the lives of 19 police officers.
Section UK of the International Police Association has a history of supporting its members to fundraise at individual, branch, region or national level.
